The Texas Institute for Teacher Education, a global teacher certification and placement program, exists to prepare college graduates for K-12 teacher shortage areas. To alleviate the national teacher shortage, we connect our graduates to teaching vacancies nationwide. Your certification and employment is our mission. Our "fast-track" program leads to full standard certification as a classroom teacher. The Institute is committed to the preparation of classroom educators who recognize that data-driven, learning-centered professional practice reflects a keen understanding of how human diversity issues impact the individualized learning process, including the acquisition of critical thinking, problem-solving, and performance skills. Since program design reflects the alignment of Institute curricula and assessments to multiple sets of state and national standards (Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation), our teacher candidates are prepared to earn multiple teaching certifications. To improve K-12 student learning outcomes, the Institute prepares beginning educators to link current neuroscience and educational research to classroom instructional practices. During the professional practicum, teacher candidates implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) methodology to help their students meet and exceed grade-level standards.

While completing the graduate seminars, teacher candidates enroll in the Professional Practicum, ME 565A or ME 565B. Teachers of Record (candidates hired as first-year, probationary teachers) enroll in ME 565A. Clinical teachers (candidates completing a 12-week, unpaid internship) enroll in ME 565B. With prior authorization, the Professional Practicum may be completed within schools located outside the State of Texas. Before reporting to internship sites, candidates sit for the TExES examinations (Content and PPR EC-12). After successfully completing the Professional Practicum and the TExES examinations, teacher candidates are recommended for the Standard Teaching Certificate issued by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification, a division of the Texas Education Agency.

For applicants seeking certification outside of their home state, The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement facilitates the movement of educators among the states and other jurisdictions that are members of NASDTEC and have signed the Agreement. Although there may be conditions applicable to individual jurisdictions, the Agreement makes it possible for an educator who completed an approved program and/or who holds a certificate or license in one jurisdiction to earn a certificate or license in another state or jurisdiction. Receiving states may impose certain special requirements which must be met in a reasonable period of time.
